The agricultural education department at Grayville CUSD #1 has had a history of offering a strong Agriscience and Ag Mechanics courses since 1949, but now the program is looking to expand into the horticulture pathway to add diversity and increase educational opportunities for students.
Last year, a $10,000.00 grant was secured from the Facilitating Coordination in Agriculture Education to install a greenhouse to enhance learning and the academic environment at Grayville High School. The faculty and staff are very excited for the addition, as it is sure to make a positive impact on the students’ learning experience. The greenhouse will allow for hands on experience and practical application of the content taught in the classroom. However, there is a lot of work to be done before they can enjoy the new addition.
The school is still in need of approximately $11,000.00 to complete the project. Grayville is seeking donations of labor, materials, and money to help achieve their goal. In thanks for contributions of $75.00 or more, the Grayville Ag Department will purchase a brick with the name of the contributors to place in a pathway leading up to the greenhouse. Contributions and help of any kind and size are greatly appreciated!
The 22x 36’ greenhouse has been purchased and is currently awaiting construction which is tentatively scheduled for early March. Supporters and community members will be updated once a definite date for construction has been set and are welcome to come help the students with the construction of the greenhouse. It is with great hope that the students and community can learn from one another with this project, students will have the opportunity to learn about construction from experienced members in the community, and then in turn community members can attend workshops and lessons taught by students where they can learn gardening and plant care skills. The community may also visit the greenhouse in the spring to purchase plants that the students have worked hard to grow over the school year. Donations and inquires about the greenhouse construction project should be sent to:
